Memorial Day

Oliver helped this morning at the Memorial Day Service at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Escondido.  He was respectful and once he was comfortable with the tasks he was a diligent worker.   The ceremony was heartwarming and very interesting.  Abraham Lincoln was quoted a lot in the speeches and Oliver likes telling Mommy historical facts about Abraham, so Mommy is going to scatter a few of his quotes throughout this post.

Chair set-up.

Neat cemetery work Jeep.

Some of the Scouts, but not all of them.
"Whatever you are, be a good one."
-Abraham Lincoln-

The others were holding flags along
the entrance.

Oliver chose the task of handing out
programs.  An older Boy Scout
helped him and they worked for a while
making sure that everyone that arrived
had a program.

"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to
succeed is more important than any other."
-Abraham Lincoln-

The program:

Wreaths:

"I want it said of me by those who knew me
best, that I always plucked a thistle and planted
a flower where I thought a flower would grow."
-Abraham Lincoln-

"Be sure you put your feet in the
right place, then stand firm."
-Abraham Lincoln-

Posting of the colors by the Boy Scouts and
the Girl Scouts.

The wreaths were placed up near the stage
and brought by representatives of the
groups who were honoring the Veterans.

Cameron, the Boy Scout who
helped Oliver!
"The way for a young man to rise is
to improve himself in every way he can,
never suspecting that anyone wishes
to hinder him."
-Abraham Lincoln-

Cemetery Jeep again.
(Remembering a Hero.)

"I do the very best I know how-- the very best I can;
and I mean to until the very end."
-Abraham Lincoln-
