Our Cottage

Grandma Post bought the cottage in 1948.  Fountain Park Chautauqua runs for only two weeks every year.  Most of the cottages are only used for those two weeks.  There is no running water at park for most of the year, and many of the cottages are not suitable for living in, in the winter.  Grandma Post bought her cottage from a man who lived in it year round after World War II.  He "winterized" the cottage, that is why our cottage has a fireplace.

All of the stuff in the cottage has been there for as long as Mommy can remember.  There are some things missing that Aunt Jess, Aunt Ali and Mommy noticed- we found out that some things had to be thrown away because of a little flood in the kitchen that went unnoticed for awhile made things moldy.  We still love everything there, but miss some of our favorite trinkets.

All of the cottages in the park form a circle, there are a few on the outside of the circle.  Ours is on an end, it is nice not being shushed between other cottages.  It is always fun looking at other people's cottages and going inside of them!

Here are some pictures of our cottage and the things in it:

The front of our cottage.

The side of our cottage and the fireplace.

The back of our cottage.

The other side of our cottage.

On the back.

On the front.

This blanket was in the Forrest Gump Movie.
Mommy likes to sleep on this bed.

Really old fan.

Old trash can.

Mirror on wall.

Essential for the cottage: Fly Swatters

Wall decorations.

More wall decorations.

An ice bucket.

There are two daybeds like this.

Our favorite- wind chimes.

The fireplace, trinkets, and another pretty mirror.

The porch.

The porch again.

Lantern.

Bell.  It was pretty loud when Oliver tried it!

A neat little pan.

Oliver found treasures inside of it.

Another old fan.  Scary fan.  Oliver wouldn't go
near it.  Especially after Steve showed him his finger
that has the tip cut off, and he told Oliver something
about how the fan did that to his finger.  Nice Steve.

Magazine Rack.

Grandma Headdy's Instructions for Opening
Up the cottage.

Grandma's instructions for Closing Up
the cottage.

On the wall.  (Hmmm...)

One of the caretakers of the Park brings picnic tables to
all the cottages.  Grammie said that one of the caretakers
has been doing the job for many, many years.  She said
he is in his 90s and still doing it.  So neat!

The kitchen.  The kitchen had to be redone after the
flood, so it is a little more "modern."

The bathroom.  Very tight fit.  Mommy and
Aunt Jess prefer to use the showers in the
campground at the park.  Much brighter
and easier!

Rocking Chair.

Another Rocking Chair.

Grandma Post's bread bag rug.  Here is
an old article that gives instructions for making one.
They are very sturdy.
