We had a fun day. Oliver hung out with Grammie for a little bit in the morning and then we were off to visit Balboa Park for the day! We picked up Aunt Jess on the way! Fun, fun, fun!
Bye, bye Maple. She was sad and wanted to come
with us.
We had a coupon for the San Diego Automotive
Museum! Yippee! (Mommy likes museums! History is fun!)
We saw this at our Jingle Bell Run, it
definitely inspired us to come back to the museum.
Outside.
Fiat.
Jalopy.
We were wondering what....
these little springs were for? They were on all four corners
of the car. (Can anyone explain them?) Grandpa answered!
I put his answer in the comments, so we have it for future reference.
Looking at a VW camper bus.
Hippy Aunt Jess.
Guess who took this picture? We couldn't stop
laughing at the photographer! He had the camera
pointed towards him at first! Cuteness.
Mommy tried to be serious with her hippy
son, but she just couldn't.
This was a neat display!
It was a real life "barn find." It was found in a barn
in Imperial Beach.
Here is some more information about barn finds.
(Just in case you were curious.) HERE is an
interesting, well written blog that a good friend suggested for
me to read about finding cars in barns.
Oliver liked how the headlights were on the floor.
Great artwork!
Mommy sort of likes the color purple.
Sweet old man helping Oliver into
a 103 year old truck.
Excitement!
He loved tooting the horn!
Electric Car.
Weird motorcycle.
Really old motorcycle with a wooden seat.
Oliver took this picture of Aunt Jess. Mommy
spies a baby belly!
Mommy kind of likes the car from Back to the Future.
This guy was pretty cool too.
(But Mommy was much, much more
intrigued by this weirdo.)
(He is just so interesting and so very weird, Mommy
just couldn't be pulled away from him!) Oliver was trying
to get Mommy's attention. Can you tell?
Checking out a Pathfinder.
Neat art installment. It was an abandoned trailer
left in Idllywild, that an artist rescued and painted.
(Mommy has never been to Idllywild, she would
like to go. Soon?)
We tried to watch a movie about an old plank road.
Oliver was being to silly to pay attention to the movie.
Very interesting car that drove non-stop for over 6,000
miles. Even the fuel "stops" were done on airfield
runways with moving fuel trucks. There was even an
ironing board and stove in the backseat! Here is a video
about the car.
We collect pressed pennies. Good thing
Aunt Jess had the coins to share with us!
Thanks Jess!
Cranking out his penny!
Traffic Light Kid!
We took the long way back around to visit the
fountain and the playground!
Fountain Oliver.
Playground! Fun!
Happiness!
He loved this thingy.
(Airplane.)
We had a really great day! We plan on visiting more museums! Happy Sunday!
Mere,
ReplyDeleteIn case no one answered your question about the springs on the Jalopy at the Balboa Car Museum, those are called “curb feelers”. When you were parking the car, those springs would make a noise to let you know the car was close to the curb. Those were common in the 1950’s, I think my dad had a set on our 1955 Ford.
If you type “Curb Feelers” into Google, you will find many sites that explain them and also purchase a set of curb feelers for your car.
Love,
Dad
Thanks Dad!
